BOSTON, MA: TEENAGE HEART, in partnership with Performer Magazine, is proud to present STILL BEATING, a free online-only compilation featuring 27 New England punk, rock and heavy metal bands. Each act was hand selected to represent the pulse of the Boston area. From political battles and physical altercations to haunted houses and video games, STILL BEATING  is a journey through the hearts and minds of New England’s underground music community.

Based in Jamaica Plain, TEENAGE HEART has a punk rock history with 15 physical releases and countless shows booked under their banner. For STILL BEATING, the label looked outside the box by adding doses of metal, hard rock and even folk to the compilation. “I initially wanted an even distribution of styles, so no one genre stood out above the rest,” executive producer Joshua Bottomley states. “STILL BEATING shows different sides of the underground music scene. In the future we want TEENAGE HEART to represent all of the hardworking and unsung musicians of Boston and beyond.” TEENAGE HEART founder Brian McCaffrey has similar sentiments, “These songs are the here and now of what’s going on in our backyard. You can see these bands in small venues in the area for not a lot of money on almost any weekend night.” While many of the bands on STILL BEATING hail from The Hub, a few acts stretch into the outskirts of The Bay State into Connecticut and Rhode Island, making STILL BEATING a New England compilation.

Performer Magazine is a go-to-guide for independent musicians. It is with this ethos in mind that the publication paired up with the long-standing label. “To be involved in a project like this is right up our alley,” Performer’s editor-in-chief Benjamin Ricci comments. “For over 20 years, promoting independent and DIY artists is what Performer Magazine has been all about. We hope that [STILL BEATING] gives these artists the exposure they deserve, and introduces them to a new fanbase here in New England and around the country, as well.”

“A View Of Heaven, From A Seat In Hell” is immense and though it still leaves one feeling there is more to come from the band that thought feed the anticipation of what they can yet come up with considering the quality on this EP. Varied in sounds within songs and threatening in power over violence the release once it takes hold is a lingering joy and the extra time taken to explore its soundscapes proving worthwhile.

Orwell will make a big impression on metal in the future and with “A View Of Heaven, From A Seat In Hell”have already left an indelible mark.

ACARO Joins the Ascendance Family!

It is a pleasure to announce that that mighty ACARO have come onto Ascendance under the promotional and publicity roster!  Name ring a bell?  Perhaps you saw them at the New England Metal and Hardcore Fest in 2009 and/or 2010?  Maybe at your local venue?  Maybe at the Rock Your Face Off Fest in 2010 and/or 2011?  If you haven’t heard of these guys yet, perk your ears up and pay attention; go watch the video after the jump, maybe you have heard of Burn in Silence or Overcast?  Ya, that’s right.  Vocalist Chris Harrell was also the vocalist for Prosthetic Records act Burn In Silence in the mid 2000’s and drummer Jason Fitzgerald laid the beats down for Overcast, which also featured members who became apart of Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, and Seemless.  Accompanying Harrell and Fitzgerald are two very talented shred machines, Felipe Roa and Chris Leblanc.  Kevin Smith takes the low end with his thunderous bass playing.  Together they take various elements from several genres including hardcore, thrash, and death metal to form an aggressive sound like no other.  Here at Ascendance, we are pleased to have them aboard.

Introducing SOCIETY’S PLAGUE

Bio

With an onslaught of layered melodic metal with unexpected twists and turns, and sophisticated structures Societys Plague has earned respect and fans throughout the Kentucky area, and now worldwide with the release of their debut album “The Human, The Canvas”.

In 2008 the band released their debut EP “The Mercy Untold” with great success. , the bands vigorous live performances helped the band to set up several regional tours and recognition started escalating.

Upon entering Spider Studios in February of 2010, with famed producers Tony Gammalo and Ben Schigel (whom have producer credits with artists such as Chimaira, It Dies Today, and Walls of Jericho), the band inked a deal with Stand and Deliver Records. The band has recorded and released their debut album, “The Human, The Canvas”.

Slabs of layered melodic metal with unexpected twists and turns, sophisticated structures and extraordinarily impressive vocals

The Human The Canvas is violently sublime, like a Buddhist monk attaining Nirvana while being fed through a rusty wood chipper.

Introducing Orwell

Bio
La Crosse, WI’s ORWELL are preparing to release not only a new record, but a newORWELL. With their upcoming release AVOHFASIH, the band showcases a more mature, and far superior version of themselves. AVOHFASIH will be available September 6th in a hand-packaged, hand-numbered limited edition run of 300 cds, and in numerous digital outlets.

This 5-piece group came together in various forms and contexts over the course of the past 7 years. With the release of the self-produced Endeavors (ZBR – 2009), ORWELL hit the road and started making their own waves with DIY touring. ORWELL, (Erik Bolstad – guitar, Tim Bradley – guitar, Will Strickland – bass, and Logan Hauser – vocals) then brought in Cris Bissell (Face of Ruin) to take over the drumming duties on tour. Coming off of the road in August of 2010, the band decided to add Bissell as a permanent member and re-evaluate the mission of ORWELL. With that, they withdrew into the darkness to write a new record, and refocus themselves as a group.  As they now begin to emerge into the light and return to active status, ORWELL bring with them a sense of new life, and a ferocious new album that is equally as melodic as it is menacing and distant.

While the band’s previous work was rooted in melodic thrash, the band now finds itself exploring a much heavier, more emotionally-driven direction. AVOHFASIH shows the band finding inspiration in previously unexplored places. ORWELL counts IsisNeurosisThrice,Alice in Chains, and Burst (among others) as bands that continue to inspire them to let down their guard and allow the music to come into existence organically. As the record seamlessly flows from song to song, the soundscapes evolve from the crushing depression and mid paced drudge of “In Tides, I Wake,” to the haunting angelic incantations of “From Depths, I Rise,” until finally culminating in the soaring open melodies and uplifting mantra of “A New Awakening.” From doom and sludge and acoustic meddling, to head-on metal riffing and spiraling guitar solos, AVOHFASIH is constantly evolving, as is the band behind it.

AVOHFASIH will be self-released online and directly through the band on September 6th, 2011. Fans will be able to purchase/download the album directly from the band physically or digitally, with the options of iTunes, Rhapsody, and Amazon also being available.

Introducing WIDOW SUNDAY

Bio
Intense, powerful, angry, brilliant. Widow Sunday has taken the metal genre to the next level of devastation with their latest offering, “In These Rusted Veins”. Combining the best elements of hardcore, industrial, and metal, Widow Sunday’s “In These Rusted Veins” delivers a pure dose of aggressive perfection
that will stand up to it’s peers in the heavy music genre. “ITRV” was produced and engineered by Shane Frisby (Bury Your Dead, Cannae, The Ghost Inside) and mixed and mastered by Peter Rutcho (Revocation, The Year of Our Lord, Ravage).

Many bands struggle their entire careers to form an album that is catchy and engaging. Well, these Massachusetts natives have been blessed by the gods and managed to produce an ear shattering record sure to please the angry gods of metal…on their first try.
– Luke Amos, The New Review

Widow Sunday apparently sees no good reason to be defined by one style or another. They’re also talented enough to pull of a mix of styles without falling flat on any one of them…and they go far beyond simply not falling flat — they crush everything.
– Islander, No Clean Singing

Hailing from central Massachusetts, the quartet is already making a name for themselves in the Northeastern metal scene. Fueled by the success of their debut 2009 EP “Embracing the Beast Within” and it’s accompanying video for “The Strings of Clarity” (directed by Ossian of Kingdom Cold Productions), the self-described “dance metal” powerhouse has performed countless regional concerts in addition to receiving worldwide radio airtime. With a debut full length album now in stores and extensive touring plans in the works, Widow Sunday is poised to break faces and shake booties all over the planet.
